– 2024 Business Ignite StudentGuidance from industry professionals offering real-world insight and shared values.
Conversations that explore identity, purpose, and what comes next.
A structured 8-month journey with meaningful conversations.
Helping students understand who they are and how they can make an impact.
At its simplest, vocation means calling—a summons to live a life of purpose and contribution. Rooted in a long theological tradition, vocation was originally understood as God's call to love and serve others through the particular contexts of one's life. It was never limited to a job but instead framed all of life—who you are becoming and how you participate in the world—as a response to that call.
Today, vocation can be understood as a lifelong process of discovery. It is not something you choose once, but something you grow into over time. It requires curiosity, making connections, and a desire to create value for others. Your vocation takes shape at the intersection of your deepest longings and the world's deepest needs—drawing together your talents, interests, experiences, and even the areas of brokenness that move you to act. It is lived out through character, expressed in love, and sustained by generosity toward others.
So why does Ignite emphasize vocation? Because we are not just preparing students for jobs—we are preparing them for meaningful lives. We want graduates who are successful and fulfilled, who live integrated lives where their work aligns with who they are and contributes to something beyond themselves. Vocation gives us the language and framework to connect the personal, professional, and spiritual dimensions of life. It helps students not only ask, "What will I do?" but also, "Who am I becoming, and how will I make the world a better place?"
Ignite was launched in 2021 as a collaborative initiative between George Fox University’s College of Business and College of Engineering. In its first year, Ignite saw astounding success with a total of 66 business and engineering students who were paired in one-on-one mentoring relationships with industry professionals from over 81 different companies.
Ignite continues to expand and grow, with nearly 400 students participating to date from majors including business, engineering, graphic design, and communication.
